Higher Lane, Portland

We spotted this jaw-dropping photograph of beautiful cottages on Higher Lane, Portland, on Facebook. Higher Lane is located immediately on the South side of Sea View Cottage. This photo’s so good we just HAD to put it up on our website. It was taken by Phil Thorns who was staying nearby in August 2021 and is posted here with his kind permission (thanks Phil).

The light, the colours, the composition and perspective, are amazing! We’re not particularly artistic but, there’s no doubt it’s a very special photograph! Some people have commented that it looks more like a painting than a photograph. This gave us an idea.  So we’ve passed it to an art group to see if any of their members can use it for inspiration. It certainly gives the iconic view of Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, a run for it’s money. And if there are any budding, or even established, artists out there looking for a holiday, these beautiful cottages are crying out for you to paint them!
